Five of us rolled in for Open 26.2 this morning. We kicked things off with barbell work—front squats, cleans, clean pulls, and some accessory movement to get the joints loose and the blood moving. Nearly nine thousand pounds of total volume before we even touched a dumbbell. That was the deal today: get warm, get right, and then get after the Open workout.
Before we started, we watched the elite women hit 26.2 during the live announcement. Man, they moved fast. A whole different gear than what we had in us at five in the morning. The workout is three rounds of dumbbell overhead lunges, dumbbell snatches, and progressing pull-up variations that end with muscle-ups in the third round. We haven't touched ring muscle-ups in a while, so we subbed bar muscle-ups. Builder was a machine today—finished the whole thing in about twelve minutes with twenty bar muscle-ups. He definitely gets the belt.
I ended up with 123 reps and eleven dead-hang bar muscle-ups in the third round. Honestly, I was happy with that. My wrist has been giving me grief lately and I haven't been doing muscle-up work at all, so getting eleven strict felt like a win. We're not officially registered for the Open—just doing the workouts for the work. That's enough.
Good Friday morning. Builder earned it today. The rest of us just showed up and did what we could, which is always the point.
The Red Rocket Lounge meets at 5am in Chattanooga. We're fathers, business owners, and community leaders who show up before the sun to get better. Drop in for a visit or join the brotherhood.
